Vote on Resolutions 1 and 2

Date: April 12, 2000
To: CAS Faculty
From: James Bunn, Chair Policy Committee
Subj: Votes on Resolutions

Here are the results of the vote. There are 470 voting faculty in CAS according to Senior Associate Dean Charles Stinger. From these, 282 ballots were returned. One ballot was invalid with respect to both resolutions: one additional ballot was invalid with respect to Resolution #2.

The Bylaws (Article VII, E, Section 3) say: "A referendum shall pass if approved by a two-thirds vote, with a majority in participation. A two-thirds vote means at best two-thirds of the valid votes."

A majority of 470 is 235. There were 280 unspoiled ballots. So a majority were in participation. The actual results of the voting were:

Resolution Yes Votes No Votes Spoiled Ballots
Resolution #1 265 16 1
Resolution #2 255 24 2

So the requirement of two-thirds of the valid votes is satisfied. Both resolutions pass.
